What is Sumo

Sumo - Sport of the Gods is a unique portfolio of stock photography depicting the rituals and pageantry of Sumo, Japan's national sport.
This collection is probably unique in the West, as it is almost impossible to photograph Sumo professionally without three very important ingredients: press credentials, lots of time and a fair command of conversational Japanese. The author was fortunate enough to have the three during the five years he lived in Tokyo.

The book covers all aspects of Sumo in great detail. It is the product of 5 years of intensive research on Sumo while I lived in Japan. During that time, I visited Sumo beyas (stables) on an almost daily basis and I took thousands upon thousands of photographs, many of which have been featured on magazine covers and in articles worldwide and are commonly used by stock agencies. It is also one of the first book to have attempted in-depth research on the many parallels between Sumo and Shinto.
