About the Author...

I was born in Paris, France. Thanks to an open-minded family I received my education in Paris, London, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Munich and Barcelona, ending up with degrees in modern languages and international business.
A couple of years after college, I did the best thing a young person can do to widen his or her horizons and gain an understanding of our world and its wonderful diversity: I set out on an 18-month trip around the world, which eventually led to a five year stint in Tokyo, Japan, as an instructor at Sophia University and a freelance photographer.
Circumstances of life brought me to Los Angeles in 1982 and I have made it my home for the past two decades. I am married and have an adult son.
I own Graphie Int'l, Inc., a small software and multimedia consulting firm I founded in 1982. Despite my busy schedule, I try to make time for regular travel all over the world. In the course of researching Photographing the Southwest&emdash;the sequel to my previous book Land of the Canyons&emdash;I have flown dozens of time to Las Vegas, Salt Lake City, Phoenix, Albuquerque and El Paso, renting cars for extended 3 or 4 day weekends. I have followed this routine for more than two years. On longer trips, or trips involving four-wheel driving, I drive my own vehicle. I am usually on my own during intense photography trips, although I also enjoy the company of a partner when one is available. On more relaxed trip, I travel with my wife and dog and sometimes also, our two horses.
